The Student Pilot's Flight Manual was one of my primary sources of reading and study material during my test preparation.
The material is generally well-presented, and the reading flows well with occasional jokes and anecdotes to support the learning. I found the text approachable, easy to understand, broad enough to introduce all areas contained on the knowledge test, and detailed enough to cover most of the material on the knowledge test.
Therefore, this is a decent introduction and study book, but it is not sufficient by itself to prepare you for the exam - in my opinion. I also used, and highly recommend, supplementing this book with other reference material. But I am happy I purchased this book, and found it informative from cover to cover.
Now that I have some spare time I joined the Civil Air Patrol to get back into flying while serving my community. Very happy with the product. Very well written, in easy to understand wording. Very complete and necessary info for passing your written exam.
This book is not for new or first time pilots. In the first 10 pages there are may confusing mathematical equations that create more question than understandable instruction.
I now have Rod Machado's flight handbook and find it far more informative and east to read. I writ this not to put down the book but to point my Amazon friends who are considering becoming a private pilot a good source.
